Source document
RoadPrep's study content is derived from the Alberta Driver's Guide — Cars and Light Trucks (Spring 2026), published by the Government of Alberta, Transportation and Economic Corridors, and obtained from open.alberta.ca.
Licence
That material is used under the Open Government Licence – Alberta. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Alberta.
What is reproduced
- Guide text — the guide is split into its sections for the in-app reader, and every question cites the section it came from.
- Sign and diagram artwork — road signs and instructive illustrations, extracted from the guide's own vector artwork.
- Glossary terms — driving terms as the guide defines them.
Map and city coordinates
The directory's map view is built from three separately licensed sources, each of which requires naming.
- City coordinates — GeoNames, used under CC BY 4.0. Alberta populated places only; the register's county entries are deliberately not placed, because a county centroid can sit tens of kilometres from the school.
- Map data — © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database Licence.
- Tiles — OpenFreeMap, serving the OpenMapTiles schema. Tiles are fetched by your browser only when you open the map — see privacy.
How it was modified
Guide text was extracted and reflowed into sections; artwork was clipped from the source pages and rendered as images at screen resolution. Question wording, answer options and explanations are RoadPrep's, written from the guide's statements — they are not reproductions of official test questions, which are not published.
Rules confirmed elsewhere
A few figures the guide does not state outright are taken from other Government of Alberta pages — the knowledge test's 30 questions and pass mark of 25 from alberta.ca, and the Class 5 road test's maximum of 75 points from Alberta Transportation. Road-test deduction values are modelled, not official: Alberta does not publish per-error point values, and the app says so where it scores.
